AIR TESTING - Indoor Air Quality Indoor air quality parameters can be measured to ensure that the work-place has adequate ventilation and that pollutants are not being allowed to build-up. We use a direct-reading IAQ meter to measure temperature, relative humidity, carbon monoxide & carbon dioxide. The instrument can either be used at a fixed location to show variation over the working day or to give instantaneous spot readings. In offices, this technique can be used as a preliminary assessment of 'sick building syndrome', and with data-logging to show variations over a longer period of time to enable the affect of specific events to be quantified (e.g. ingress of rush-hour traffic pollution). In an industrial situation, the instrument can be used in survey mode to map parameters in areas or around specific processes. This enables any leaks or 'hot spots' to be identified at source and remedial actions taken. Results are compared to guidelines given by Department of the Environment and HSE in Guidance Note EH22 "Ventilation of the workplace."
